This policy framework suggests ways in which employment supports are crucial for individuals living with serious mental illness in accessing and maintaining meaningful employment. It examines the value of work for individuals living with mental illness, the need for specialized services for these individuals, the need for a realignment of policy direction, as well as provides a program policy framework for employment supports. The work then outlines key program elements to creating a comprehensive system of supports for individuals with severe mental illness in the workplace, and offers 8 elements to the successfulness of support systems. It then concludes with a rationale for these supports in assisting individuals with severe mental illness to accessing and maintaining employment attachment.
